Im not sure if the reason no one ansered you is because the question you asked is a sign of a unhappyness & which answer will give you wont clerify it for you (sorry) or maybe there is simply no one here to explain it but i will try my luck
By now your absolutely right that wearing a hit and rekl should not be a yesod in yidishkeit but the answer for all this kind of questions is a pusik says "v'al titosh toras imachu" & this is of course a yesod in yidishkeit because even lets say you are enough build up in yidishkeit & you wont become defected from changing that specific tradition of hit & rekl , next will come your children & say look my grand father wears them & my father not now i will decide what i want to follow same as my dad did & so on & so on and the end of it is unfortunatly predictible
So if you care for your future but for your self its not imprtant consider my words but.... if you are not even interested in your futures yidishkeit i appolijise....
